Of the four Sanctuary Lodges on the Lomond Castle Estate, Leven Lodge 1 is the smallest, and the only one built around a couple. One king-size bed, one open-plan living space, one hot tub for two on the decking. No twin to make up, no four-person logistics, just a couple of suitcases and a weekend.
The lodge is laid out on one ground-floor level. Two steps take you over the threshold; after that, there are no stairs to climb. Inside, the open-plan space takes shape with the lounge at the window end, the kitchen tucked at the back, and the dining table set in between. The bedroom and walk-in shower room sit just off the lounge, so the whole lodge stays reachable in a few steps. Gas central heating runs throughout, the bed is dressed in good linen, and a heated towel rail in the shower room takes the chill out of wet-coat days. The Smart TV with Netflix sits ready for evenings when the weather turns.
Outside on the decking, the hot tub stays hot through Scottish winters, with room for two to stretch out without negotiating elbow room. The deck around the hot tub isn't gated. If your dog has come along, garden furniture across the path is the usual fix while you're in the tub.
Through the estate gates, the south shore of Loch Lomond is a five-minute walk. Duck Bay is a few minutes along the road for dinner without the car, with Cameron House a touch further on the same lochside stretch. Further afield, Balloch Castle Country Park is ten minutes away by car for proper dog walks under old planted woodland, and the Clyde towns of Helensburgh and Dumbarton are within easy half-hour reach for an afternoon by the firth. The A82 runs alongside the estate. You hear the traffic in the day, but it settles to proper quiet at night.
Leven Lodge 1 belongs to Loch Lomond Sanctuary Lodges, a row of four lodges with the larger Kingfisher beyond them. The other three each sleep four, so a sister lodge is bookable separately on the same row of doors if friends decide to come too. On its own, this one is built to fit a couple cleanly, with nothing left over.
For couples who want Loch Lomond without a second bedroom and a four-person hot tub they don't need, this is the lodge in the row that fits. Nothing extra, nothing scaled-up.
