Fiadh Ruadh is Gaelic for "red deer," and the name is not decorative. The fields surrounding Gartclach Farm are a regular corridor for red deer moving between the Trossachs hills, and from the enclosed garden or through the living room windows, you may spot them. Sheep and cattle graze the nearer pastures, hares cross the grass at dusk, and the farmland rolls out in every direction without a main road in sight.
The house itself is modern, built to a scale that photographs undersell. Three bedrooms sit across the first floor: two king-size doubles (one with an en-suite shower and a dressing area that fits a travel cot) and a twin for children or a third pair of adults. Three bathrooms across two floors keep mornings moving. A ground-floor shower room handles the post-walk mud, and the open-plan living space runs from a well-equipped kitchen through to a large lounge with a wood burner and a Smart TV.
The hot tub sits in the enclosed rear garden, sheltered and private, with nothing between you and the Trossachs skyline. It seats five, and the view shifts through the day. On clear evenings the light stays late and the hills turn from green to gold. The wood burner earns its place on cooler nights, filling the lounge quickly, and the shift from hot tub to wood burner is how the evenings here tend to go.
Benview Garden Centre and its cafe sit at the end of the road, a short walk rather than a drive, and the cafe is properly dog-friendly. Gartmore village is two miles on, with a community-owned pub and restaurant. Aberfoyle, Drymen, Balfron, and Killearn are all within a twenty-minute drive, and Glasgow and Stirling are close enough for a day trip without losing half of it on the road. Back at the house, the kitchen, with its dishwasher and good worktop space, rewards cooking in too.
Parking takes four cars comfortably, which matters when a group arrives from different directions. One large dog or two small dogs are welcome. Leads are required on the farm itself (livestock grazes the surrounding fields), and the enclosed garden gives them a secure space to decompress between walks. The two sister houses on the same site, Gartclach and Iora Rua, can be booked together to sleep up to twenty-two for larger gatherings.
Your host Lesley Anne leaves a welcome basket on arrival, with treats for the dog if you bring one. That kind of attention runs through the whole stay.
